Sorry for being Late !

Apologies to Everyone for the delay in updating the website and for our Rodeo Dinner being a little later in the year.  We are a month later than last year which has just been unavoidable.  This year we are trying a new buckle supplier from the States in the hope that we can receive better quality buckles for the same price for our end of season champions.  Because of the time difference, delays in communication, finding out about customs duty fees etc,  this has been a very long, slow and sometimes painful process everything should be all sorted now.
Once again, apologies to everyone, hopefully next year if buckles are of the standard we’re looking for then this process will be a little easier and a lot faster which will speed the process up and put our Rodeo dinner date a little earlier again.  Thanks for your understanding.  Regards Tracey.

Running our Dinner & AGM on the Same Day

The decision to hold our AGM on the same day as our Dinner was for a number of reasons, but certainly not to try and persuade anyone into attending either.
We would certainly like you all to attend both as support is always needed in all areas of Rodeo, but please feel free to only attend the meeting or the dinner if this is what you choose.

Island Rodeo Circuit – Footy Tips

For those of you who don’t know, the Island Rodeo Circuit this year organized a social Footy Tipping for the Winter months.  The catch was that the entire 22 rounds had to be tipped for the season prior to round one.  There's 44 people currently participating and it's been a whole heap of fun.  Currently leading the tips is Jackson King from Tina & Mark Ellis and Brock Weber is sitting 3rd place.  Still plenty of rounds to go, so it will be interesting leading into the final rounds.
At the end of the season, we will be hosting a major Footy Day Party for all participants with complimentary food & drinks plus our major prize winner.  This will be open for people who didn't participate in the tipping at a fee which is yet to be decided.
Stay tuned for additional information.

ANIMAL WELFARE HANDLING COURSE

A course is available for any interested person on Animal Handling Skills at Rodeos.  The IRC and Department of Primary Industries would encourage as many people as possible to complete this course, in particular Rodeo Competitors, Committee Members & Yardmen.  One course has already been completed in the South of the State and the next is scheduled within the next month or so on the NW Coast.  Each course is limited to 10 people, but if there is enough interest, we will arrange additional courses in different locations.  The course is ran and funded through Skills Tasmania and a $50 course fee is applicable for all attendees.  The course consists of 2/3 days - day 1 is underpinning knowledge for OH&S and Animal Welfare, day 2 is First Aid.  If a participant already has a current First Aid certificate, then they don't have to sit that day but will get recognition for that certificate.  The 3rd day is the observation/prac assessment at a practice day/jackpot day/etc.

If you are at all interested in participating in this course could you please get in contact with Tracey on 0400 917 417 or tlking@aapt.net.au ASAP.  As soon as we have numbers confirmed we can confirm the dates.  Thanks everyone

NEW ANIMAL WELFARE REQUIREMENT

The Department of Primary Industries have advised the Island Rodeo Circuit that under their new Animal Welfare Act, a report is required to be sent to DPIW within 21 days of a Rodeo outlining any animal injuries.  As this report is already supplied to the APRA, we are currently working on introducing a system for which the APRA will report to DPIW on our behalf.  This report is solely the responsibility of the Rodeo Judges.  It will be extremely important for all Rodeo committees to get the required information to the APRA as soon as they possibly can to ensure the IRC meets the requirements set under this new law.
As a Reminder to All Rodeo Committees, please do not forget that it is now Law that a veterinarian be in attendance at all Rodeo events within Tasmania.

STEPHANIE CLARK A NEW HORSE
Congratulations to the SRJS Secretary, Stephanie Clark who recently purchased herself an outstanding Barrel Racing and Breakaway Roping gelding from former Australian Champion Cowgirl ‘Julie Breed’ of Victoria.  Look out for Steph and ‘Cosmic’ at this seasons Jackpots and hopefully professional Rodeos throughout the season.  Congratulations Steph.

SRJS END OF SEASON CHAMPIONS

Another successful season of Jackpot Rodeos in Tasmania and special thanks must go to all those people who lend a hand on the days.  To our Committee members, time keepers, yardmen, flag judges, stock contractor, barman, canteen lady, competitors and supporters we would like to say a big thank you for all your help throughout the year.  Without you people the Jackpots would not be a success and we thank you all immensely.
The SRJS Annual General Meeting date will be advised very soon to which committee vacancies will need to be filled.  Some Committee members need  to have a break from their duties so if anyone thinks they would like to have a go then please come along to the meeting.  Thanking you all again

RODEO COMMITTEE PACKAGES

The Island Rodeo Circuit have been working on Information Packages for all Tasmanian Rodeo Committees to which we hope will assist you all in running successful rodeos in Tasmania.  Included in the package are portfolios for Venue, Admin, Promotions, Sound, Personnel, Livestock etc which are designed to allocate work evenly throughout the Committee members and ensure no matters are overlooked.  These portfolios have been derived from Ulverstone Rotary Rodeo and have proved a wonderful success so we hope that they will help your Committee out also.  These packages will be send out with our Rodeo Dinner invitations in the next few weeks & we ask that you read through them to see if there is any information that you think needs adding from your experience in running a rodeo.  If we can pass everyone’s success and experiences on to others we can only hope to ensure the future success of our rodeo events in Tasmania.  Looking forward to hearing from you all.  Tracey K.
